The last few times I've taken Avery grocery shopping, she has started "sneaking" items into the cart. (yesterdays trip we got a can of beefy soup, corn, Wheat Thins, and a huge box of fruitsnacks). It made me think of our Saturday chore (if we were lucky), grocery shopping with mom.
I remember Jill and I would sneak a box of donuts or cookies into our overflowing cart. We thought we were SO sneaky! Did you know the whole time mom?
Remember Storehouse Market--how we loved the "black crayon" and writing the prices on all the food boxes, the huge refrigerated dairy section, (always wanting to wait outside the doors), and boxing all our food to take home.
I NOW appreciate being able to "bag" my own groceries and having such an enthusiastic shopping partner!

When I was in high school, Dad would let me have the car for a friday night if I went grocery shopping first. He'd give me a blank check, tell me to spend about $100, and I'd head to Storehouse Market. (Were the prices really THAT much better there? It was 30 minutes away.)
I was never given a list of what to shop for, but Dad always told me that I did a great job. I just got the same things that mom did. Bread, milk, saltines, hot dogs and IMO. What else?
I would always sneak in some eyeshadow or mascara...I felt it was justified because I had saved more than the cost of the make-up with the coupons I used.
Remember when Storehouse started the self checkout and you scanned your items from one basket (that was on a scale) and put it into an empty basket on another scale. It never worked right and seemed to take forever! I love self checkout now.
Oh my, Lori, Avery is starting early.
I remember the Storehouse Market, seemed we all went. Yet I remember really wanting to go on Saturday's to get out of yard work. Just where did the groceries fit if we were all packed in the Honda?
Jenny, your grocery list of bread, milk, saltines, hot dogs and IMO is really funny, because it is so true. I'm not sure what else we ate on a regular basis, although I know that we did. Every great once in a while we got pickles. Remember dad saying, "I'm not going to buy them because you girls will just EAT them." What else might we buy pickles for? I thought that was really funny.
I'd just eat pickles and microwave melted cheese at Sheri Scott's house. I could endure her parent's screaming at each other and the kids for the pickles and cheese. Oh and Sheri had a microphone and great Olivia Newton John albums to sing to. Good times. Good times.
