I think it's important to note for our posterity that this pond was right next to our property and that it no longer exists. Does everyone else remember the pathway to it? It seems that originally we climbed through a gap in the barbed wire fence, but later it was pushed down so we just stepped over it. Then it was up the hill and down the bumpy and usually slippery trail to the Pond. Was it slippery because it was always damp, or was it loose rocks and dirt? There was also a "diving board" at one end. Did we ever swim in it?
I also remember ice skating on it in the winter. The Rasmussens had some two blade skates that I learned on.
We grew up in a fantastic place, didn't we?
PS. Miriam, feel free to filch these as well. We love to share!

Moyles pond so many great memories. We spent so much time there...I don't think we out right swam in it. (with our faces in the water) put we sure played in it alot. Remember when dad strung extension cords from the quanset and hung a light in the trees over the pond for a family home evening with( I think the Thompsons and or Rasmussens.) of iceskating building a fire for roasting marshmellows and hotdogs.
Tyler did go thru the ice when we asked him how hard he could jump on the ice. That was a little scary. Remember dad use to set up
a shooting range for us with pop cans on a log across the pond and the final test was who could shoot what? (either the empty box from the shells or a matchbook) and mom usually won that contest! she was awesome with the 22
Oh yeah, I remember those times!
It was Moyle's Pond and Bee Lake--I think.
That pond was super dirty, just look at the moss Miriam and Jenny and I dug out of there! Mom must have loved doing our laundry! I remember the path to that pond in my mind sooooo well. It seems like it was slippery because it was always damp.
oh we probably slid down that hill almost into the pond everytime we went down there...remember you had to grab on to that tree...
A little history of Moyle Pond (I don't think it was ever officially named) The property was originally owned by the Moyle family. The pond was created by a natural spring - so the water was pristine. The fact that it had no out-flow created the moss and algae growth. We all had a blast - and thanks for remembering how great I was with the 22.
I think we aimed the shotgun in the direction of the Trinnaman's house, although their house may not have been built at that time.
Is there a pic of the great diving board? I remember Tyler going thru the ice that cold night and feeling very worried about him.
Miriam's goucho's I could only covet. Mom would never buy me a pair. I loved them.
if you click on the pictures to enlarge them...you see the details. check out jennys short and long tube socks, kims bell bottoms and how dirty we are!
that would be shorts.
YES I do remember grabbing onto that tree! You had to be very careful or you would slide ALL the way down that hill. The Trinnaman's house wasn't there when we were shooting dad's 22. Mome' WAS really good with the 22 as well. I bet it was from all of her time in Scouts! Do you guys remember her Scouting uniforms?
I even have memories of this wonderful place! The diving board stayed there for a long time after the pond was gone!
I even remember grabbing the tree and I think dad did the "light thing" more than once.
What was the name of the pond BEHIND the Trinnamons??? We had fun there too! Sliding down that cement chute in old jeans, and also sliding down the mines! Good times!
Bee Lake is what we always called it. Sliding down the cement ditch that was usually covered in moss. I was such a chicken, I think I only did it once.
