I had a brief moment of deja vu this morning.
I got in my van at 0725 am to go buy some milk at walgreens...ya ya we ran out of milk. (that's a whole other post of it's own--the Thompsons cow and milk) The snow and ice have frozen the tire tracks in our driveway--I got my van wheels in them and it's like driving the cars at Lagoon...your wheels don't leave the tracks...it was just like driving our lane in Alpine. I was thinking all the training we got from driving in winter (and spring) up our dirt road.
Whether it was mud or snow...We all have some great stories of being stuck...all we needed was some carpet remnants and some muscles and we were pretty good at getting ourselves (and friends---who were NOT happy about being our friends at those times!) out.
One of my best memories was Jaime and her dad picked me up for the 9th grade night dance. I was looking so good in a dress mom had made for me. They got stuck at the bottom of the cement driveway you know the little turn--by that corner tree? Jaime and I were so late and our nylons were covered with mud splatterings...She was SO mad at me.

Hi Girls... I needed a day or so to get back into life- one early morning and 5 hours in line. Kristen will be posting the pics.

I got stuck in the snow in my red Festiva one day after school. I had the speed going, and was doing everything right, but I got high centered and there's nothing you can do about that! I tried everything and the car was finally wedged sideways in the road.
I had to get back to the school for my basketball game, so I called Angie K and ran to the end of the lane for a ride. I fretted over the wrath that would I would receive for just leaving the car there, and thus causing Mom and Dad to be stuck behind me when they came home.
Remember that when we were all piled in the station wagon and Dad would get to the cement driveway, he would slow down and someone would jump out and run open the garage door?
You bet I remember that Jenny! We used to argue about WHO would have to do the "jumping out"! No one wanted to do it. Someone had to put on that ONE pair of moonboots we owned and time their "jumping" just right...THEN run through the mud and/or snow, staying AHEAD of the car, and then throw open the garage door just in time! It really was quite an adventure. It seems like I had to do it A LOT, AND in a dress too, often on the way home from church.
I wonder why we never got a garage door opener?...I mean an electric one with a button you can push from the car. Maybe that's why I appreciate mine so much now. It seems SO easy. Can you imagine my kids running up the length of my driveway ahead of my suburban...arriving just in time to throw open the door...as I roar on into the garage, hilarious! They think life is hard if they have to get out of the car and push the buttons for the code to open door. LOL
What fun memories! I fondly remember that drive to your house! I remember Kim driving the tan Honda and knowing how to maneuver just so-- I also remember the old a-frame and the new house with no furniture. :)
Liz, you are SO right! There was NO furniture for a very long time! Nice to see you on here!
I can't believe what we put up with. I remember one day I needed to get out. I had the yellow (or tan) Honda - snow was too deep to blast through. (I had been high centered before too) I put Robyn in the car with her Fisher-Price people and their little cars. She played with them on the dash board while I hand-shoveled the road - shovel a little - drive a little, shovel a little - drive a little.
