When fall comes I always think back to our first fall in Alpine--October 1976.
Remember the turn of the road in front of the McDaniels house?
It was always covered with TONS of leaves! It was such a beautiful drive into Alpine and on up to Orchard Lane.
Remember when the beginning of the dirt road started just above the Rasmussens-- going over the little wooden bridge and winding our way up to our little dirt lane? That whole Jacobsen and Bunker neighborhood area was just a big field. Jill remember riding Sherri Scott's horse (what was its name?-Sugar Baby?) through that field and it just decided to lay down and eat in the middle of the ride?
Remember going with Dad to buy the apple press from the Browns by the elementary school? Remember making apple cider--and the batch of apple cider that sat out too long and got a little fermented?
Remember all of us sitting lined up on the back of the tractor (along with some cinderblocks) to weigh down the plow? We'd head into the house brown!
Remember water turns at 4:00 am, the racoons and owls? (JD was so good at treeing racoons)
Remember burn days--we'd get the hose and shovels and help burn weeds? that smell was so yucky!
Feel free to expand...my memories are flowing this morning...what great memories we had. We'll have to write all of our living in the quanset hut stories...I think I have some good pics.

What WAS Sheri Scott's horses name? Ginger! I think that's what it was. What a naughty horse. Riding through the alfalfa field that now houses the Bunkers/Jacobsons a gun shot went off (which wasn't uncommon in those days) and that damn horse took off like a shot. I held on for dear life. Scared me and scarred me. I wish I loved riding horses.
Oh my gosh, do you guys remember the huge hole in the bridge and trying to get a run for it in the snow so we could get up and around? The bridge had no sides on it, super dangerous! It used to snow alot more back then, didn't it? Sure seemed like it. None of my friends would drive me up the dirt road by the Fraziers. I always had to walk in winter. At night time it was always a little spooky. I'd run FAST!
John Tischners horse was sugar baby--wasn't it? The little Shetland pony we use to take care of.
